THE IRISH AMERICAN HERITAGE CENTER IS AN OFFICIAL 2025 OPEN HOUSE CHICAGO SITE!
We’re thrilled to share that the Irish American Heritage Center will be an official site for Open House Chicago 2025—the citywide architecture and culture weekend that opens doors to remarkable spaces across Chicago. During OHC, visitors enjoy free, self-guided access to notable buildings and behind-the-scenes interiors, discovering design, history, and neighborhood stories all in one unforgettable weekend.
DETAILS:
The Irish American Heritage Center is the city’s home of Irish music and arts and a year-round hub for Irish culture, hosting numerous programs and festivals. It houses a pub with a cozy fireplace known as the Fifth Province, as well as a library, ballroom, shop, 658-seat Mayfair Theatre, art gallery, and museum. The Center is located in a former Chicago Public Schools building dating to 1927, restored and converted in the late 1980s. Enjoy preserved architectural elements from the original building, complemented by Celtic art painted throughout. Today, the Center offers language and dance classes, music sessions, art exhibits, festivals, and community programs. It also houses the Irish American Hall of Fame.
VISITOR EXPERIENCE:
Most of the building will be open for self-guided touring, including the library, museum, art gallery, classrooms, Fifth Province Pub, Mayfair Theatre, and general event spaces. Volunteers will be stationed throughout the building to offer insights to guests. On Sunday, guests can also enjoy the Jefferson Park Farmers Market located in the North Parking Lot from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
