Chicagoan John Williams who plays is internationally regarded as one of the foremost players of Irish music today. With five All-Ireland titles to his credit, Willams is the only American-born competitor ever to win first place in the Senior Concertina category. Forming the groundbreaking Solas in 1995, Williams received wider recognition playing to sold-out audiences internationally and earning two Grammy nominations for the ensemble’s 1996 and 1997 releases Sunny Spells and Scattered Showers
Williams performs throughout the world with such world renowned musicians as Dennis Cahill and Jimmy Keane, and leads many traditional Irish music sessions throughout the Chicagoland community. He is joined at Irish Fest with some of Chicago’s finest traditional Irish musicians and performs on Sunday July 8th at 7pm on Folk Stage.
