Rory Makem returns to the Irish Fest stage for a solo performance in the Fifth Province. He is part of the three piece band, Makem and Spain and performs on banjo and vocals.
Makem was born in Drogheda, County Louth, about an hour north of Dublin. He continues the lineage of one of Irish music’s dynasties, begun by his grandmother Sarah Makem, who was sought after by song collectors for her store of traditional Irish songs. His father, Tommy Makem, was the modern day Bard of Armagh. Now considered an icon, he helped to bring Irish music out of the corner and into the international spotlight, where it has remained ever since.
He has performed before millions of people from Canada to Texas, from California to the Caribbean and over to Ireland, highlighting national PBS specials and popular Irish talk shows along the way. In 2017 and 2018, he toured extensively with Donal Clancy and the duo performed at the IAHC for concerts.
Rory Makem performs on Saturday July 7th at 4pm on Folk Stage and Sunday July 8th at 3:30pm on the Fifth Province stage.
