Open House Chicago at the IAHC
October 19 @ 10:00 am – October 20 @ 5:00 pm
Visit the hidden gems of the Irish American Heritage Center as we become a part of the annual Chicago Architecture Center’s Open House Chicago; a free public festival that offers behind-the-scenes access to more than 350 buildings across Chicago.
The IAHC is the city’s home of Irish music and arts and a year-round hub for Irish culture, hosting as many as 200 programs per year. It is home to a pub with a cozy fireplace known as the Fifth Province, as well as a library, ballroom, 658-seat theater, art gallery and museum. The Center is located in a former Chicago Public School building dating to 1927, restored and converted in the late 1980s. Enjoy preserved architectural elements from the original building, complemented by Celtic art painted throughout.
During Open House Chicago, guided tours take you through our building to see what goes on at one of largest Irish cultural centers in the US. Visit our many spaces and learn how we transformed a derelict turn of the 20th century building into a home for Irish culture. The entire IAHC will be open for self-guided exploration or docent-led tours during Open House Chicago, and the annual iBAM! (Irish Books, Arts, and Music) celebration that takes place concurrently on Saturday. Click here to learn about iBAM!
Throughout the day on, enjoy music from internationally-acclaimed Irish musicians and food and drink at the Fifth Province. Irish dance lessons will be offered by Trinity Irish Dancers and Dublin’s renowned Irish Film Institute will screen short films in the theater. There will also be live pop-up theatre, art, language and genealogy workshops and curated art installations. Free parking is available in the adjacent lots, and the accessible entrance is from the north parking lot.
Open House Chicago is Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20 from 10am to 5pm and is free. For more information on all OHC sites, click here.
