🌼🕯️ We’re honored to share that the Irish American Heritage Center was invited to join OMME Center’s cross-cultural exhibition, “Día de los Muertos Around the World.” Curated by artist-in-residence Kongit Girma, the show explores how communities remember their loved ones through art, ritual, and story—Mexico to Nigeria, Poland to Ukraine, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Ethiopia… and Ireland.
🇮🇪 Our Marketing & Programming Manager, Madison Casey, created an IAHC display on Samhain (SOW-in), the ancient Celtic festival marking the end of harvest and the start of the darker half of the year—when the veil thins, ancestors are welcomed, and homes glow with fire and candlelight.
Highlights: harvest/New Year origins, ancestor offerings (bread, apples, nuts, mead), hilltop bonfires, protective masks, divination traditions, and modern echoes in Halloween and contemporary Samhain altars (photos, candles, seasonal foods, herbs, gourds, letters of remembrance).
🖼️ The exhibition celebrates a universal truth: to remember is to belong.
📅 On view through Thanksgiving — we encourage our members to visit and take photos!
