For more than twenty-five years, artist Michael Carroll has been creating new works in the style of the 8th Century Irish monks. His intricate illuminated manuscripts have been likened to “lost pages from the Book of Kells.” Seeking to pass on the tradition, he offers two Celtic art courses at the Center this fall.

Celtic Art by Hand and Eye
Sundays, 11am-1pm
This class is an introduction to Celtic Art: calligraphy, knotwork, spirals, key patterns and more. Learn how to create your own borders with beautiful Celtic decoration for illuminated poems, greeting cards, arts and crafts projects.

Required Materials: Blank paper 11 x 14″ or larger, pencils 2H or harder, eraser, 2-3 color pencils, calligraphy marker 3.5mm or larger, black fine line marker, clear plastic ruler and compass

Celtic Art Portfolio
Sundays, 1:30pm-3:30 pm
An open-studies class for artists; some knowledge of Celtic Art is recommended. Students work at their own pace on their own art with feedback and encouragement from fellow artists, and guidance in a small group. Bring along your latest project.
