The Chicago Cultural Alliance presents the film “In Search of Weeping Jim,” the story of Alderman James Ambrose Kearns and his quest for the creation of Chicago’s city flag.

The iconic Chicago flag, with it’s four red stars and double blue striped is revered throughout the world, and is the result of a proclamation made by Alderman Kearns in 1915. Born in Ireland in 1871 on the tiny island of Inishcuttle, Kilmeena, Westport County Mayo, Kearns emigrated to America in 1884 at the age of thirteen and entered a long career of public service here in Chicago.

The Chicago Tribune has called this film “a lively tale.” The soundtrack features great music from The Saw Doctors, Gaelic Storm, The Wolfe Tones, and local favorites Jimmy Cloonan & Friends and Southside troubadour Liam Durkin.

Join us on Friday, October 7th at 8:00pm in the Mayfair Theatre at the Irish American Heritage Center for “In Search of Weeping Jim.”

Tickets are $10 at the door. Please join us in the Fifth Province Pub after the screening.
