Songs and Ballads in the Irish Tradition

Mezzo-Soprano Ciara Lyons has studied singing, acting and dancing since age five at Ireland’s Independent Theatre Workshop. She trained vocally with Rebecca Storm, and has done intensive courses in the Mountview Academy of Arts in London and the Gaiety School of Acting. She has a B.A. in Drama Studies from UCD and has her Licentiate Teaching Diploma in Speech and Drama from the Leinster School of Music and Drama. Credits include the lead roles of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Jasmine in Aladdin and Belle in Beauty and the Beast. Lyons teaches Singing, Dance, Creative Drama and Speech and Drama in The Independent Theatre Workshop. She is spending the year at the IAHC as a children’s drama and music teacher.

She is joined on keyboard and backing vocals by Mark Piekarz.

Mark Piekarz is a lyric tenor and pianist who specializes in cultural programming, liturgical and classical choral music. He has performed ballads in English and Irish on vocals and piano at the Center’s iBAM! Irish Books, Arts and Music Celebration, the Irish American Hall of Fame and Bloomsday Celebrations. He has also performed at the Steppenwolf Theatre’s Look Out Series and on WBEZ Radio. He is a Tenor with Wicker Park Choral Singers.
