The Irish American Heritage Center is located at 4626 North Knox Avenue, on Chicago’s Northwest Side. The Center is just east of the Edens Expressway at the Wilson Avenue exit. (see map location below) 

From the South or West

Take I-90/94 West (Kennedy Expressway) to Wilson Ave. Turn right on Wilson Avenue to the IAHC building.

From the North

Take I-94 (Edens Expressway) south to Wilson Avenue. Turn left (east) and travel one block to the Center.

From the Northwest

Take I-90 (Kennedy Expressway) east to Lawrence Ave. Turn Left on Lawrence (east) and travel about 1 mile to Kilpatrick Ave. Kilpatrick is just east of Cicero Avenue. Turn right on Kilpatrick (south) and travel one block to Center.

Public Transportation

Take the CTA Blue Line to the Montrose stop. Exit the Montrose station and turn east. Follow the frontage sidewalk along the expressway (northbound) to Knox Avenue. Turn right and travel one block to the Center.

Take the CTA Brown Line to the Kimball stop. Exit the Kimball station, cross Lawrence and take the eastbound Lawrence Ave CTA Bus to Kilpatrick Avenue. Walk one block south the the Center.

Take the Lawrence Ave CTA Bus to Kilpatrick Avenue. Walk one block south to the Center.

 

The Archives, located on the second floor, work with the Library and Museum to catalog, restore and maintain objects of significance to the Center and to the Irish American community. The Archives aims to serve an interactive resource that members, researchers, and the broader community may draw upon in an effort to foster a greater understanding of Irish and Irish American history and culture. 
 
Inventory is currently being taken of all internal collections, and during this time only a limited selection of the collection is available to the public.  The staff welcomes inquiries concerning information about the collection. Please direct all questions to archives@irishahc.org

Irish Language Spring 2016 Semester

 

Classes are Wednesdays, February through May from February 3, 7pm-9:30pm or Saturdays, February through May from February 6, 11am-1:30pm.

The spring term picks up where the fall term left off. Tuition for the term is $100 (returning students). Payment is by cash or check at your first class.

If you have a good command of Irish or have studied with us in the past, contact us as soon as possible before the start of the spring term to see about joining classes.
