Seanachaí Theatre Company’s production of The Weir by Conor McPherson runs from August 26th to October 3rd. The cast includes company members Jeff Christian, Kevin Theis and Sarah Wellington, along with Brad Smith and popular IAHC member, Brad Armacost.
Matthew Miller, whose previous credits include the critically acclaimed production of Ellen Fairey’s Graceland (Non-Equity Jeff Award for New Work) for Profiles Theatre, and Fairey’s girl,20 for Serendipity Theatre Collective, directs. Set design for The Weir is by Robert Groth, Costumes by Aly Renee Greaves, Lighting design by Julian Pike, Props by Gretel Ulyshen and Dialect work by Barbara Zahora.
The Weir, a tale of lonely characters, reveals how the human need to be heard connects souls through storytelling. An enigmatic young woman from Dublin finds herself the center of attention at a local pub. Pints in hand, the local barflies recount ghostly yarns of the supernatural to impress and entertain her, but it is the visitor herself who relates the most unsettling story of all.

Seanachaí is the Gaelic word for Storyteller. The people's stories were at the very core of ancient Irish culture. It was the duty of the Seanachaí to keep these stories alive. The mission of Seanachaí Theatre Company is to return theatre to this origin - by creating compelling productions and programs that focus the energy of artists towards the common goal of exceptional storytelling. To achieve this end, Seanachaí Theatre Company strives to provide an atmosphere where all theatre artists - actors, playwrights, directors and designers - have the support and assurance to collaborate openly. That is at the heart of all ensemble companies, and Seanachaí has proven itself a major player in Chicago’s ensemble-driven theatrical community. |
