About the
Heritage Center
The Irish American Heritage Center stands as one of the largest Irish cultural centers in North America, occupying a historic 90,000 square foot building in Chicago's Mayfair neighborhood. What began as an audacious dream by a handful of Irish immigrants has grown into a thriving institution that serves thousands of visitors each year.
Our mission is simple yet profound: to nurture and strengthen Irish culture and heritage, foster an appreciation of Irish and Irish American life, and create an enduring cultural community in the greater Chicago area. We do this through music, dance, language, art, theater, and the countless traditions that bind us together.

Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the IAHC
Our Journey
1985
The Dream Takes Shape
A group of dedicated Irish Americans purchases the former Mayfair College building on Knox Avenue, envisioning a permanent home for Irish culture in Chicago.
1986–1990
Volunteer Renaissance
Hundreds of volunteers pour thousands of hours into renovating the 90,000 sq. ft. building, transforming classrooms into performance halls, galleries, and gathering spaces.
1991
Doors Open
The Irish American Heritage Center officially opens its doors, welcoming the community to its first season of programming, concerts, and cultural events.
2000s
Growing Legacy
The center becomes Chicago's premier destination for Irish culture, hosting the annual Irish Fest, expanding its library, and launching new educational programs.
Today
A Living Tradition
With over 200 events annually and thousands of members, the IAHC continues to evolve as a vibrant hub for culture, community, and connection.
