The Story

From the Trail of Tears to the Famine

The story begins in 1847, during the Great Irish Famine, when members of the Choctaw Nation, despite having endured their own forced removal along the Trail of Tears just 16 years earlier, raised funds to support the suffering people of Ireland.

Generations later, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Irish people returned that generosity, donating millions of dollars to support Navajo and Hopi communities in recognition of the Choctaw Nation's remarkable act of kindness.

About the Exhibition

Six Years of Photographic Research

Drawing upon six years of photographic research and collaboration across Ireland and the United States, Echoes of Kindness features striking large-scale contemporary portraits created in collaboration with the Choctaw, Navajo, and Hopi Nations and Irish donors.

Through these images, Murray explores the enduring power of generosity, cultural connection, and the ways a single act of compassion can resonate across generations.
