The Tradition

Nollaig na mBan, Women's Christmas

Long before the decorations came down, Irish women claimed the last night of the season as their own.

Little Christmas

January 6th closes the Irish Christmas season. Known as Nollaig na mBan, Women’s Christmas, or Little Christmas, it falls on the feast of the Epiphany.

A Night Off

Traditionally the day the women who carried the cooking, visiting, and hostessing of the holidays finally put their feet up — while the men took over the kitchen.

Cork & Kerry Roots

The custom runs deepest in Cork and Kerry, where women gathered in each other’s homes and in the pubs to celebrate together.
