The Mayfair Theatre at the Irish American Heritage Center is proud to welcome this not-to-be-missed opportunity to celebrate two of Chicago’s most vibrant cultures in music and dance! Join Sones de Mexico and the Irish Music School of Chicago as they share the stage to present a tribute to the the St. Patrick’s Battalion (Batallón de San Patricio).
In 1846-48, during the Mexican-American War, a group of gallant soldiers formed mostly by recent Irish immigrants to the United States, who called themselves the St. Patrick’s Battalion (Batallón de San Patricio), fought alongside Mexico against the U.S. invasion. The San Patricios fought under a green silk flag emblazoned with the Mexican coat of arms, an image of St. Patrick, and the words “Erin Go Bragh.”
Sones de Meico, Chicago’s premier folk music organization specializing in Mexican “son” music, and the Irish Music School of Chicago bring their production of Los San Patricios: The Irish Soldiers of Mexico to the Mayfair Theatre for a can’t-miss evening.
